In an interview with the media today, Lotus driver Romain Grosjean reckons Lotus need “a bit of luck and some clever decisions” to pull in the points in Abu Dhabi.
With just ten points in total for this season, Lotus are on track to end this year’s Championship in eighth place. However, with double points on offer this Sunday at the Yas Marina circuit, Lotus are not giving up on the possibility of more points and a higher position in the standings.
The Lotus team will head to Abu Dhabi with upgrades for the car, which Grosjean is hoping will pay dividends. In his interview with the media, Grosjean believes that the few upgrades being brought forward for this weekend stated the following on his chances this weekend:-
‘We’ve got a few upgrades coming which should give us a bit more power and with double points on offer, you never know!
‘We are going to try our hardest to get the best result we can and create a positive mood over the winter for the team back in the factory. When things aren’t going right for you, it’s difficult on everyone so a bit of positivity will help the whole team.
‘Pastor and I will be trying our upmost to bring back some strong points. Sometimes a bit of luck and some clever decisions is all you need to achieve great results, and that’s what we’ll be aiming for on Sunday.’
From what Grosjean has stated in his interview today, with the prospect of double points on offer this weekend, anything can happen. And with the Lotus team bringing upgrades to Abu Dhabi, this could be good for the team as they head into the winter and working on their 2015 car.
It is clear that Lotus are using this weekend as a good and valuable starting point to gain data for the 2015 car that will help them get a headstart next season if possible. Lotus haven’t had the best season and we have seen them struggle to extract pace and performance from their cars to try and battle for point finishes.
Overall, you can be certain that Grosjean will be doing everything that he can to extract pace and performance from the car this weekend in Abu Dhabi to finish the season in the best way as they possibly can and use this data as a starting point to help develop the 2015 car into the winter.
With the prospect of double points on offer this weekend at the final race of the season, Grosjean and the Lotus team have to do everything that they can to try and get into a points scoring position and I really hope that they can. As even though we are not used to seeing Lotus struggling to score points, it would be a fantastic achievement for Grosjean to end their difficult season and taking away some more valuable points on Sunday and end their season as best as they can.
