Scuderia Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso, has expressed his desire for small teams to remain in F1. This message comes after the administration of F1’s two “blue flag” teams. Force India’s deputy team principle, Bob Fernley, claims that the “game plan” of Formula One is to drive the smallest teams out of the sport.
“I started with a small team, Minardi, all the drivers should get the same possibility to start with small teams” – Alonso said in an interview with Autosport.
Other present drivers have climbed up the ranks from F1’s smallest teams. Ricciardo made his debut with HRT in 2011, and signed for the World Champions, Red Bull, three years later after joining the Red Bull Driver Development Programme. A similar situation for Daniil Kvyat, who will be team mates with the Australian in 2015.
“We need everyone in the sport. More teams and more things happening around F1 will help.”
Alonso also explained “I don’t exactly know what are the problems and what are the possible solutions, but I know that everyone has tried to meet to find a solution and I’m sure they will do the best for the sport, and we will support them.”
