Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg has been given a penalty for the upcoming Russian Grand Prix, after a gearbox change.
The German retired from the Japanese Grand Prix last week when exiting the pits, for what turned out to be a gearbox problem. Due to his gearbox not completing the mandatory six consecutive races before a change, Hulkenberg will receive a penalty for Sunday’s race.
Hulkenberg was classified in eighth place for last weeks race, before the red flag came out due to a countback. If he was not classified, the Force India driver would have had no penalty.
Both Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez also have new gearboxes for this weekend but do not get a penalty, after their gearboxes completed the six race life span, at Japan.
