Lewis Hamilton stormed to his seventh victory of the season at the Marina Bay Street Circuit which means the Brit now leads the Driver’s Championship after team-mate Nico Rosberg retired due to electronic problems. Sebastian Vettel came home second ahead of team-mate Ricciardo, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Here is a list of who I thought performed well this weekend.
Lewis Hamilton
A dominate display from the 2008 world champion at the Singapore Grand Prix. Hamilton secured pole position by the smallest of margins on Saturday and did the business on Sunday however admittedly benefited from Rosberg’s troubles. Nevertheless, he had a lot of work to do after the safety car to ensure he came out ahead of the Red Bull drivers when he pitted – he failed to do so however he passed Vettel with ease to take his seventh victory of the season.
Sebastian Vettel
Sebastian Vettel scored his best result of the season finishing second behind Hamilton. The four-time world champion has been consistently out-raced by team-mate Ricciardo in 2014. Vettel passed Ricciardo at the start and got ahead of Alonso after the safety-car. Like Massa, Vettel completed over thirty laps on the soft tyres to finish second.
Felipe Massa
Arguably Massa’s best weekend as a Williams driver. He out-performed Bottas in both qualifying and the race. The Brazilian completed a mammoth thirty-eight laps on the soft tyres at the end, he managed to bring his car home in 5th – at a track which does not suit the FW36 whilst Bottas finished a lowly eleventh.
Jean-Eric Vergne
Without a drive for 2015, the man from Pontoise showed his Formula One credentials by finishing sixth at the Singapore Grand Prix – matching his career best result (2013 Canadian Grand Prix). He passed his team-mate early on (due to team orders) however came alive in the final ten laps as he passed Hulkenberg, Raikkonen and Bottas. Despite receiving two five-second penalties throughout the race, the Frenchman clung on to a superb sixth place.
Who do you think was the Driver of the Weekend?
