In an interview with the media yesterday, Force India driver Sergio Perez says he is “very close to committing” to Force India for 2015, but admits anything could happen until the deal is signed.
Ahead of the previous race at Monza, Perez stated that he was extremely keen to remain at Force India next week and establish himself after driving for three outfits in as many seasons and it seems a deal is moving closer.
In his interview in the FIA Press Conference, Perez stated the following about remaining at Force India next season:-
‘I think we should be very close to committing to next year with the team, but you never know and I have experience in the past so you never know what is going to happen.’
It is clear to see that even though Perez is confident that he will remain with Force India next season, anything can happen in Formula One as he found himself last year when he lost his seat at his former team McLaren. But all he can is with his management keeping work with the team to secure his future for next season as quickly as possible.
Force India who have never finished higher than sixth in the standings in their current guise, currently trail McLaren by just one point in the fight for fifth in the Constructors’ Championship and Perez feels they can edge ahead of his former team this weekend.
Further on in his interview, Perez added the following about his chances about having a great weekend at Singapore:-
‘We are really optimistic for this weekend, we have a good upgrade package and definitely our target is the McLarens which we are fighting really close and hopefully we can score more points than them this weekend with both cars and hopefully the upgrade package will give us some boost.’
From what Perez has stated in his interview yesterday, it would seem that he believes Force India bringing an update to Singapore will help them fight with McLaren on the track. But McLaren are also bringing an upgrade too and it will be interesting to see what happens on the track this weekend.
But let us not forget that Perez has traditionally performed well at the Marina Bay Street Circuit scoring points on all three of his previous visits. Question is; can he do the same with Force India this season and get back fifth in the Constructors for his team? Only time will tell.
