2014-Italian-GP-027The chances of McLaren testing with a Honda power unit before Formula 1 pre-season testing next year are “very likely”, according to McLaren racing director Eric Boullier.

The 2015 season will see both McLaren and Honda renew a partnership that saw them dominate the sport from the mid 1980s to the early 1990s.

Honda Motorsport boss Yasuhisa Arai previously stated that the first run for a McLaren-Honda chassis at Jerez was “very likely”, rather than the post-race test at Abu Dhabi.

Although according to German publication Reuters, Boullier said that the time at which such chassis will debut was still something of an open account, but was quoted to have said it was also “very likely” it would be prior to pre-season.

“Regarding the first test of a McLaren Honda-powered car, there is no decision yet about when and where,” Boullier told Reuters.

“It is true that there was a comment but we won’t give a definite answer now because we actually don’t know yet exactly. But it’s very likely it may be before Jerez as well.”
