Caterham driver Marcus Ericsson will start from the pitlane for the upcoming Italian Grand Prix tomorrow afternoon. The Swedish driver was penalised for failing to slow down due to yellow flags in final practice.
Ericsson failed to slow when Sergio Perez’s Force India was parked at the Curve Grande. The stewards had deemed he had not slowed down sufficiently and thus awarded him a penalty.
In normal circumstances, Ericsson would have received a grid penalty however due to the fact he qualified last, a grid penalty would have not impacted his grid position.
Ultimately, he qualified nine tenths behind team-mate Kamui Kobayashi and Ericsson was left disappointed when asked about how his qualifying went.
”Everything worked fine in the afternoon, but we struggled to get the most out of the car. We need to look at the data tonight and see where we can improve compared to Kamui [Kobayashi]. I am disappointed with the result but we will certainly fight back tomorrow!”
He admitted not having the chance to test the option tyres in FP3 hampered his chances of a good result.
“This morning in FP3 we had a small problem with the engine before the performance run, so we didn’t get to do a proper run on the Option tyres and therefore we went into qualifying a bit blind, unfortunately”
Team-mate Kobayashi will start the race 18th (promoted one place due to Kvyat’s grid penalty for an engine component change)
