Felipe Massa believes team-mate Valtteri Bottas has the potential and capacity to be a world champion in the future. The Brazilian is seventy points behind his less experienced team-mate and has yet to finish on the podium this season compared to Bottas who has scored all four of the team’s podiums in 2014.
Massa has been impressed with the outright speed of the Finn but also his attitude and approach to racing.
“He’s a great driver,” said Massa.
“He’s shown since the beginning of the season that he’s a great driver; that he’s quick, that he’s competitive, that he’s clever, intelligent, working very hard. It’s clear he’s doing everything correct”
Massa also praised Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo who has consistently out-performed four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel this season.
“People need to see him as a great driver in the field. Not just him, [Daniel] Ricciardo too.”
When asked if Bottas can win the championship in the future, he replied: “He can, definitely. He’s still young.”
Bottas has been linked with a move away from Williams however stated there is no reason to leave the Gove-based team.
