McLaren have confirmed that former Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh has now officially exited the team, bringing his 25 year association with the team to an end.
Whitmarsh, who took over the reins of the Formula 1 team from Ron Dennis in 2009, was ousted after the end of last season with the Woking-based team putting in place a new management structure put in place with Eric Boullier stepping in a new “racing director” post while Enginnering director Jonathan Neale moved into the CEO post within the team.
Dennis also returned to the fold to oversee the operations of the team as the CEO of the McLaren Group, which includes both the Automative and the F1 team’s activities.
Although there was no official announcement on the status of Whitmarsh, a McLaren spokesperson revealed to Autosport that following long talks between Whitmarsh and Dennis, that there had now been an agreement for the two to head in separate directions.
The team’s spokesperson told Autosport: “McLaren and Martin Whitmarsh have agreed amicably to part company.”
During his tenure at McLaren, Whitmarsh had been the team’s operations boss, managing director as well as CEO alongside then team principal Dennis, jointly leading McLaren to six drivers titles and four constructors titles.
