This morning we saw on a Spa circuit that was drying out the Williams of Valtteri Bottas finishing the session at the top of the timesheets ahead of the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo.
It would be fair to say that the session took a while to really get going and in the latter stages of the session as the track was drying out, that is when we saw the drivers coming out to put in the laps around the Spa circuit. But it would seem at the moment that many pundits and fans who tipped the Williams to be the main rival of Mercedes this weekend could be indeed true as Bottas topped in the timesheets with a lap time of 1.49.465.
Daniel Ricciardo was a big surprise and finished the session in second place 0.2 seconds behind Bottas. Nico Rosberg finished the session in third place ahead of the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen in fourth place who had a much improved session after everything that happened to him yesterday.
Lewis Hamilton finished the session in fifth place ahead of Fernando Alonso in sixth place, Daniil Kvyat who impressed once again by finishing in seventh place, Jenson Button finished the session in eighth place, ahead of Felipe Massa in ninth place and Jean-Eric Vergne in tenth place.
Sergio Perez finished in the session in eleventh place ahead of Kevin Magnussen in twelfth place, Sebastian Vettel in thirteenth place who is not having a very pleasant weekend and has had to replace his engine this weekend. But Vettel will not incur a penalty as he has put one of his old engines in the car.
Nico Hulkenberg ended the session in fourteenth place ahead of Adrian Sutil who finished in fifteenth place. The Lotus’ of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado are not having a great weekend either with Grosjean finishing ahead of his team mate once again in sixteenth place and Maldonado finishing in seventeenth place.
As we head towards the latter stages of the grid, Esteban Guiterrez finished the session in eighteenth place in his Sauber ahead of the Marussia’s of Jules Bianchi who finished in nineteenth place and Max Chilton in twentieth place. Marcus Ericsson finished ahead of his team mate Andre Lotterier quite comfortably with a over a second separating the two of them.
