Pastor Maldonado is hopeful that team-mate Romain Grosjean will decide to stay with Lotus amid recent comments from him that he is pondering his future with the team.
Grosjean revealed earlier this week that he was weighing up his options for next season during the mid-season break, with this season so far seeing Lotus struggling for both reliability and outright performance off the back of two successful seasons previously.
The Enstone-based outfit currently lie a lowly 8th place in the constructors championship, with Grosjean having racked up the 8 points they have to their tally, which is 175 points off their total at this point last season.
But Maldonado, who joined the team from Williams and is all but confirmed to remain with the team for next year, reckons that there isn’t anything against retaining the Frenchman as well.
“We’ve been trying to do our best,” said the Venezuelan, whose highest race finish for Lotus remains a 12th place at Silverstone last month.
“It’s good that he has the same feelings that I have in the car. This is good to push the team forward in the right direction.”
“It’s difficult to say [what the team should do] as a driver, to have an opinion.” he added. “Romain is a good driver, for sure. He’s shown that in the past and there’s no reason not to keep him in my opinion”
