marco-mattiacci1-lgFerrari team principal Marco Mattiacci believes that his team are capable of pulling off a complete “360” degree turn, to return to the front of the Formula 1 grid once more.

Just once since the beginning of the 2009 season, have Ferrari been able to build a car capable of fighting for the world championship, even though that challenge ultimately failed.

Ferrari are once again playing catch up this time to current front runners, Mercedes, after four years of chasing Red Bull. Drivers, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen and currently 4th and 12th in the drivers championship.

Although Ferrari seem to have improved in the final few races before the summer break, with Alonso finishing 2nd in the Hungarian GP last month, Mattiacci still realises that Ferrari have a “huge amount of work to do,” before they can fight for titles once more.

“We need to improve the car at 360 degrees,” Mattiacci is quoted as saying by Crash.net.

“It’s not just the power unit, it’s not just aerodynamics, it’s not just the chassis; it’s the team, the car… so it’s a huge amount of work that has to be done.

“Am I confident? I’m confident about the team spirit that we’re building and the quality of the people that we have – the strength and the plan that we have. That’s why I’m confident.”
