Jenson Button has been moved by the up-turn in performance by his former team Williams that sees them lie 4th in the constructors championship so far this season.
The Grove-based outfit’s 2014 season has gone some way to making their dismal 2013 campaign look like a distant memory, having three podium finishes and a pole position to their name among the 135 points scored in the first 11 races.
Button, who drove for Williams in his debut season back in 2000, complimented the work done behind the scenes by Williams to ensure they returned to competitive ways.
“I think they’ve put a lot of effort into doing well this year. They’ve spent a lot of resources on getting a good team of people, especially aerodynamically,” the McLaren driver told Autosport.
“They’ve done a great job and I’m happy for Frank and Claire to see them competitive.
“They’ve lost a lot of points this year through incidents or just not getting everything out of the car, which is good for us, because otherwise they’d be miles in front!”
He added: “Their main aim is going to be being consistent and doing a good job as a team over the race weekend, because they’ve got the package to be very quick – it’s just whether they can get the best out of it.”
