Mercedes Motorsport boss Toto Wolff says negotiations to tie Lewis Hamilton down to a new contract have begun.
Hamilton’s team-mate Nico Rosberg signed a new “multi-year contract” with the Mercedes team last week, with the British driver’s current contract running till the end of the 2015 season.
Hamilton insisted, in light of Rosberg signing a new contract, that he is “very, very happy in the team” but would let his contract run its course further before sitting down himself and discussing a new one.
But it seems as though Wolff is moving more swiftly to secure his driver line-up for the long-term future, with him saying that initial discussions with Hamilton over a new long-term contract have started.
“We are already sitting down and negotiating with Lewis a new multi-year contract,” Wolff told Austrian Newspaper Kronen Zeitung.
“Lewis is a fixed part of the team, and I would hope [he is] for a long time to come”
