sunday website_NormalThe new owners of the Caterham Formula 1 team have been trying to cut costs, as they laid off over 40 members of staff.

Caterham refused to comment on the news, and also about the radical developments that will be undertook by the struggling team, to try and get them back fighting with rivals Marussia.

Earlier in the month, former owner Tony Fernandes sold the Caterham team after seemingly falling out of love with F1, after Catheram (formerly Team Lotus,) were not able to score a solitary point since joining the sport back in 2010. Before the new owners took over, Caterham had around 350 staff and insiders within have said that they feel the money is coming in from the Middle-East but it being handled by Swiss administrators.

The Caterham team will continue under its current name, despite now no longer being connected to any company that have the Caterham name.

Sources have reason to believe that the jobs that were let off the most were those with a high-paying salary, although there are some more younger employees which have been let go also.

In an interview with Autosport this week, new team-principal Christijan Albers has said that the remaining employees have been given the green light to invest in developments, which they hope can rise them back up into 10th in the constructors standings, as they are currently in last place, in 11th.

This one position will be worth around $10 million to the team and will help make the development of their 2015 car, even stronger.

Kolles told BBC Sport at Silverstone: “I am known for efficiency. F1 is efficiency – it is sporting performance and also financial performance.”

He said his priority in the team now, was “financial stability and profit and loss – very simple”.

He continued by saying: “We will do the utmost and put a lot of investment into this to try to gain 10th in the championship.

“If we don’t, we will look at budgets and have to adapt to a different situation.”

Caterham’s current driver Kamui Kobayashi is currently under threat after the Japanese driver took funding from fans to get him a race seat back in F1, but rumour is that Caterham’s new owners will be looking to replace ‘KK’ with a driver who can bring money to the team.

Alexander Rossi, the teams reserve driver, announced on Wednesday that he had split from not only the Formula 1 team, but also the Caterham team in which he was driving for in GP2; the feeder series for Formula 1. Robin Frijns has remained at the team despite all the changes, as their reserve driver.
