Maldonado due for “big time luck” – Gastaldi

Romain Grosjean Lotus E22 RenaultLotus Deputy Team Principal Federico Gastaldi believes things will start to go Pastor Maldonado’s way during the second half of the season.

Maldonado is yet to score a point for Lotus this season, suffering four non-finishes out of the eight Grands Prix he’s raced in, all of which were down to mechanical failures of some sort, and failed to start the Monaco Grand Prix having stalled on the formation lap, while his team-mate Romain Grosjean has scored the eight points the team have to their tally and has regularly out-qualified Maldonado.

Ahead of the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, Gastaldi is hopeful the Venezuelan’s troubled first season for the Enstone-based outfit, plagued with unreliability striking him, will take a turn for the better.

“If it balances out a little during a season then he is owed some big-time luck,” Gastaldi told GPUpdate.net

“Through no fault of his own he got penalised in qualifying and started further back than the position he had earned [15th on the grid], and then in the race we all saw what happened with Esteban Gutierrez

“It was unfortunate that it affected him so much through the race because he was quick prior to that and, I am sure, would have been strong as it progressed. I hope that his luck will change from Hockenheim onwards.”
