Felipe Massa set the quickest time on the opening day of testing at Silverstone for Williams. The Brazilian completed 42 laps in the Fw36.
Massa had a weekend to forget and looked to make up for lost ground after failing to complete a single lap of the race after he ran into the back of Kimi Raikkonen after the Finn made an error.
Daniel Ricciardo set the second quickest time of the session with Nico Rosberg in third completing 90 laps. Adrian Sutil was a competitive fourth for Sauber.
GP2 driver Stoffel Vandoorne was only 1.2 seconds of Massa’s time as he looks to impress McLaren bosses for a potential seat in 2015.
Jean Eric Vergne was forced to stop his Toro Rosso on three occasions bringing out the red flag – he was eighth ahead of Pastor Maldonado and Pedro de la Rosa who completed 49 laps for Ferrari. Will Stevens set the slowest time of the session which was five seconds off the pace of Felipe Massa.
Testing continues on Wednesday with Jules Bianchi driving for Ferrari in place of Kimi Raikkonen among other changes which will see Hamilton, Vettel and Bottas also take over from their current teammates.
