Alex Marquez stormed to pole in Qatar, putting himself first on the grid for tomorrow’s opening round of the Moto2 world championship.

The Spaniard set an unbeatable time midway through the session, that nobody could even come close to.

Marquez will be joined on the front row by Italian’s Lorenzo Baldassarri and Francesco Bagnaia. The two Italians look rejuvenated this season, after both having a somewhat disappointing 2017 season.

Miguel Oliveria will start fourth, with Moto2 rookie Romano Fenati starting fifth. Danny Kent will start in sixth, with the Brit putting in a solid ride.

Jorge Navarro will start seventh, with Mattia Pasini and Marce Schrotter behind him in eighth and ninth. It was a disappointing return to the Moto2 class for Sam Lowes, who will start tenth tomorrow.

The Moto2 championship will return tomorrow, with everyone expecting a good race. Action will kick off from the Losail International Circuit at 14:20 GMT.
