Daniel Ricciardo went fastest on the second day of the second Formula 1 pre-season test, as well as clocking up the most mileage with 165 tours of the Circuit de Catalunya.
Ricciardo beat the unofficial lap record for the circuit with a 1m18.047s, half a second quicker than the Mercedes duo.
Lewis Hamilton was the early pacesetter of the day before Red Bull made use of the hypersoft tyres to propel Ricciardo to the top of the timesheets.
Valtteri Bottas took over the Mercedes cockpit at midday, slotting in third fastest of the day’s 14 runners.
Sebastian Vettel was fourth fastest in the Ferrari during the morning, standing in for the unwell Kimi Raikkonen although the Finn recovered to participate in the afternoon.
An oil leak for McLaren in the morning meant that Fernando Alonso once again suffered limited running. An engine change resulted in the car only appearing again six and a half hours later, just minutes before the end of the session.
Sauber had a productive day, with Charles Leclerc achieving one of the highest mileages, although the reigning Formula 2 champion brought out the red flag with a trip into the gravel with five minutes to go.
This caused the day to end in a series of standing starts in an extension to the original programme.
Renault also completed a successful day’s running, completing 190 laps between the two drivers.
Both Toro Rosso and Williams had small technical issues that caused their cars to stop in the pit lane but neither resulted in more than a momentary disruption to any on-track action.
