Petrov joins Van Amersfoort’s F3 squad
Formula 4 race winner Artem Petrov will step up to the European Formula 3 championship with Van Amersfoort Racing.
Petrov competed with Van Amersfoort for the final two rounds of the German F4 championship, picking up a win in the final race of the season.
The 17-year-old also claimed victories in the Italian Formula 4 championship with DR Formula.
With two years in national F4 under his belt, Petrov is confident he can be competitive with Van Amersfoort in F3.
“I felt right away at home in the team and am looking forward to enter battle together in this competitive championship with very strong drivers, who I have known since my karting days,” he said.
“With the many years of experience of Frits [Van Amersfoort, team founder] and his team behind me, I am confident that I can be competitive this forthcoming season.”
Petrov has already begun testing the Mercedes powered F3 car, adapting quickly to the new machinery.
“We had him on our radar for some time,” said van Amersfoort. “Last season he came in the team with a “bang”, being very fast and winning one race.
“We believe Artem is ready for the next step and we feel his motivation to be successful at the next level.
“We will certainly give him our full support during his maiden F3 season.”
Petrov is Van Amersfoort’s second driver to be confirmed for the 2018 season. He’ll join already announced Keyvan Andres this year.
