Boccolacci switches to MP Motorsport for second GP3 campaign
Dorian Boccolacci will switch from Trident to GP3 debutante MP Motorsport for a second season in the series in 2018.
Boccolacci finished sixth in his maiden GP3 campaign which ended with a maiden victory in the sprint race in Abu Dhabi.
The Frenchman will join the already-confirmed Niko Kari at MP, with its third driver to be announced soon.
“Joining MP Motorsport for my second GP3 season feels good”, said Boccolacci.
“I know they are eager to show well in their debut season.
“The team brings a lot of experience from Formula 2 and Formula Renault 2.0.
“With Niko as one of my team-mates, I know we can spur each other on to great performances.
“I’m really looking forward to the season.”
The 19-year-old finished second behind Lando Norris in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 in 2016, before stepping up to GP3 with Trident.
“We are happy to welcome Dorian into our team for 2018”, said Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport team manager.
“He showed amazing speed in 2017 – from the first laps in pre-season testing he set a stunning pace, often the only driver capable of challenging the established front-runners.
“With Dorian and Niko, it’s good to have two drivers that are well capable of achieving podium positions and fighting for victory. We can’t wait to work with both of them.”
The duo joins the ART Grand Prix quartet of Callum Ilott, Nikita Mazepin, Jake Hughes and Anthoine Hubert, Gabriel Aubry (Arden) and Simo Laaksonen, who will compete for Campos.
