Binder gets part-time IndyCar drive with Juncos Racing
GP2 veteran Rene Binder will drive in four IndyCar races with Juncos Racing in 2018.
Binder participated in 74 GP2/F2 races between 2012 and 2017, scoring points on just seven occasions.
Last year, alongside a guest appearance at F2’s standalone event at Jerez, he raced in the final season of World Series Formula V8 3.5, earning four victories and fourth in the drivers’ championship.
In 2018, he will partake in four IndyCar events for Juncos, who made its debut at the Indianapolis 500 last year.
Binder will make his debut at the season opener in St. Petersburg, Florida. He will also drive at Barber Motorsports Park,Toronto and Mid-Ohio.
“I am honored to be a part of the IndyCar Series for the 2018 season,” said Binder.
“I have been a huge fan of IndyCar and what the series has to offer to me as a driver.
“I had a hard decision to make this year on which path I would take in my career, and I am confident that I made the right decision.
“Right now, we have signed for four races, but I hope to add more to our schedule as the season progresses.”
Team Owner Ricardo Juncos added: “I am happy to welcome Rene Binder to our team and we are thrilled to be a part of his North American debut.
“Rene has a successful background running in the World Series V8 and GP2, along with the testing he has done within Formula 1, and I know he will carry that momentum into IndyCar this year.
“The timing is right for a talented driver like Rene to join, as everyone will be starting over with the new IndyCar aero kits.
“I want to thank Rene for choosing Juncos Racing for his IndyCar debut.”
Binder will be joined at Juncos by 2017 IndyLights champion Kyle Kaiser.
The 2018 IndyCar season kicks off on March 11.
