Maserati rumoured to be returning to F1 with Haas
Italian manufacturer Maserati has been linked to a return to Formula 1 with a title sponsorship deal with Haas a possibility.
Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1957 drivers’ championship in a Maserati 250F. It ended its involvement in F1 twelve years later and hasn’t had a major presence since.
The rumours suggest they could partner with Haas, in a similar deal to the recently-announced Sauber Alfa Romeo partnership.
The CEO of Fiat Chrysler (the parent company of Maserati and Alfa Romeo) Sergio Marchionne, admitted the deal could happen.
“Is it possible for the Haas arrangement to turn into something other than what we have today? The answer is potentially ‘yes’,” he said.
“But we’re very far away from a resolution on that matter, but it’s possible. We’ll see, time will tell.”
Maserati will pay Haas a rumoured €20 million a season as part of the deal.

If the arrangement comes to fruition, it will effectively be the third ‘Ferrari’ team on the grid.
While it’s great Sauber and Haas will have solid backing and the capacity to climb the grid, it’s concerning that Ferrari will have nearly a third of the grid voting the way it wants.
I can’t shake the feeling this is a power play from Ferrari, to make sure the future of F1 is exactly how it wants it to be.
