McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Dan Ticktum will race in the European Formula 3 series with Motopark next year.

The Red Bull junior driver follows in the footsteps of fellow MABA winner Lando Norris, who made the step up to F3 after winning the award last year.

Ticktum impressed in his first outing with the Motopark squad in Macau earlier this year, where he beat Norris to victory. He expects the win, and the MABA title, to raise expectations for his F3 rookie year.

“I’ll have a lot to live up to at Motopark next year,” he told Autosport.

“We’ll have to assess the goals once we’ve done some testing. I’ll still be a rookie but right now I’d love to be winning.

“I think it is winnable.”

Ticktum makes the step up from the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series, where he finished seventh overall with Arden International.

He has also competed in a handful of GP3 races with DAMS, taking a podium in his final outing, but a jump up to the Formula 1 support series was off limits due to his simulator role with Red Bull.

“I can’t do GP3 because I’m needed in simulator support,” he said.

“It’s like having a third car at F1 weekends because the simulator is really good now.”

Ticktum joins the already announced Fabio Scherer at Motopark, with more announcements expected soon.
