Rosenqvist: Clean sweep proof I can challenge for the title
Felix Rosenqvist believes his Hong Kong performance is proof he’ll be able to challenge for the 2017-18 Formula E title, despite struggling with brake balance all weekend.
Rosenqvist claimed pole, fastest lap, and victory in the second race of the season, a feat never achieved before in Formula E’s short history. But it was a far from simple win for Rosenqvist, who span on the opening lap and took the chequered flag second. He was only promoted to P1 when Daniel Abt was disqualified.
Race one was also a mixed affair. After colliding with Luca Fillipi and dropping to 15th in the opening stint, Rosenqvist put in a strong recovery drive to finish sixth. But the Mahindra driver had exceeded the maximum power usage and handed a penalty that dropped him back to 14th.
“We made a few mistakes, but we also got a lot of things right,” he said after the race two victory.
“I struggled with my brake balance through the weekend and I feel we could have been even better but, for now, I’m happy to start the season like this.
“The pole position, win, and fastest lap shows that we can mount a serious challenge this year, and that we’re ready to work hard and go for both championship titles.”
With 25 points already under his belt, Rosenqvist is third in the drivers’ championship, behind Sam Bird and Jean-Eric Vergne.
