Haas Formula 1 junior Arjun Maini was fastest on the second day of Formula 2’s post-season test in Abu Dhabi.

The Indian driver set a 1m48.645s in the afternoon session, to put himself and the outgoing Russian Time team at the top of the timesheets at the end of the day’s running.

Maini, who finished ninth in this year’s GP3 championship, had his laps from the morning session discounted due to his car being underweight.

Day one pacesetter Louis Deletraz topped the morning session and set the second fastest time of the day in the afternoon, 0.058s adrift of Maini’s benchmark.

Alexander Albon, on his second outing for DAMS, set the third quickest time ahead of Nyck de Vries and McLaren reserve driver Lando Norris.

Santino Ferrucci was sixth quickest with Trident, ahead of 2017 GP3 vice-champion Jack Aitken and F2 race winner Nicholas Latifi.

Honda junior Tadasuke Makino, who is testing with Russian Time alongside Maini, was ninth quickest. Oliver Rowland completed the top 10 fastest runners.

The British driver is testing with Racing Engineering for two days, to explore one of his possible options for 2018.

George Russell was 11th for ART Grand Prix, with Ralph Boschung 12th for the day after switching from Arden to MP Motorsport alongside Deletraz.

European Formula 3 frontrunners Guanyu Zhou, Maximilian Gunther were 13th and 14th quickest respectively ahead of series veteran Rene Binder and Honda junior Nirei Fukuzumi.

Sean Gelael, Formula V8 3.5 champion Pietro Fittipaldi, GP3 driver Julien Falchero and Michael Dorrbecker completed the order.
