Former Formula 1 driver Rio Haryanto will test a Formula E car in Valencia next week during the collective pre-season test ahead of the series’ fourth season.

It’s unknown whether the Indonesian star will test with one of the 10 FE teams or whether he will use the demonstration car.

Haryanto took part in 12 F1 races during 2016 for Manor before the team dropped him during the summer break in favour of Esteban Ocon.

“I’m really looking forward to my first Formula E test, having watched some of its most exciting wheel-to-wheel battles on TV,” Haryanto said in the announcement on his official Facebook page.

He believes that the championship will continue to grow around the world, with manufacturers like Audi, BMW and Porsche making their way into FE over the next few years.

“It would be great to see a Formula E race on the streets of Jakarta one day and showcase the future of motorsport and automobile in general.

“After all, Indonesia has the fourth largest population in the world.”

Formula E’s pre-season test will take place this week in Valencia on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. It is the first time the series has had an official testing session away from Donington.
