Jaguar has revealed an electric one-make championship which will run as Formula E’s first dedicated support series in the 2018/19 season.

The series will feature Jaguar Land Rover’s first all-electric vehicle, the I-PACE, make the championship the first for a production-based electric car.

“We’ve always said we want to prove our electrification technologies on the track – this is the proof,” said Jaguar Racing chairman Gerd Mauser.

“I am looking forward to seeing a full grid of Jaguar I-PACE race cars in late 2018, soon after the first Jaguar I-PACE hits the road in Europe. Ultimately this innovative series will enhance the technology in our future electric vehicles and benefit our customers.

Calendar details, as well as technical specifications and price, will not be confirmed until 2018, but Jaguar has confirmed the first season will be 10 rounds long, suggesting the I-PACE eTROPHY will feature at each FE event.

Each round is expected to consist of a practice and qualifying session and a 30-minute race.

Up to 20 drivers will be able to compete in each race, including a different “VIP Driver” at every event.

“The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY will bring more entertainment for fans in-between sessions and will be a further testament to the advances in battery technology and exciting electric performance,” said Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag.

The race cars will be built at the Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations and run by Jaguar Racing, which also operates the FE team.
