Marc Marquez took a vital victory in his world championship fight at Misano, beating out home favourite Danilo Petrucci.

In wet conditions, Marquez was able to take the win, meaning that he and Andrea Dovizioso are level in the championship standings. Dovizioso finished in third place, quite a way back from the leaders.

Maverick Vinales was fourth, being unable to capitalise on his pole position. Michele Pirro was fifth and Jack Miller was sixth. Scott Redding finished in seventh place, a good result for the Pramac Ducati rider. Alex Rins crossed the line in eighth place.

Jonas Folger ended up in ninth place, with Bradley Smith having his best finish yet for KTM, finishing in tenth place. Jorge Lorenzo was one of those who crashed, with the Spaniard crashing out of the lead. Cal Crutchlow also fell down due to the wet conditions, with Loris Baz and Hector Barbera also falling.

The tense championship battle continues in two weeks time at Aragon, where Marquez, Dovizioso and Vinales will continue to fight, with five rounds remaining.
