Honda protege Nirei Fukuzumi has inherited pole position for the GP3 Monza feature race after qualifying was cancelled due to severe rain conditions.

The series could not get underway in the hour period between its start and Formula 1’s third practice session, meaning that practice order creates the grid.

This means that the Japanese starts the race in an ART 1-2-3-4 ahead of Mercedes-backed championship leader George Russell, Anthoine Hubert and Renault academy racer Jack Aitken.

It is his first pole in his 15th weekend in the category and a first for his country.

Trident’s Dorian Boccolacci is on the third row alongside Steijn Schothorst, while Leonardo Pulcini begins in seventh.

Haas development driver Arjun Maini is eighth above Jenzer team-mate Alessio Lorandi.

Red Bull rookie Dan Ticktum will take part in his first racing session in tenth while his junior team colleague Niko Kari is 14th.

Sauber’s Tatiana Calderon is on the final row alongside Kevin Joerg.
