Red Bull junior driver Dan Ticktum will compete in the final three rounds of the 2017 GP3 season with DAMS, making the step up from Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup.

Ticktum is promoted to the series after racing in the 2.0 championship with Arden for eight rounds of this year’s campaign, winning the first race of the Hungarian leg.

His duties begin at Monza before continuing to Jerez and the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

DAMS had filled the void of the loss of Santino Ferrucci to Trident in Formula 2 with Matthieu Vaxiviere, but the Frenchman continues his role with TDS Racing in the World Endurance Championship in Mexico this weekend.

“It is an incredible opportunity,” Ticktum said on his Instagram account.

“Having never driven the car [before], only having 45 minutes to get used to a car with 200bhp more than what I am used to will certainly be a challenge.

“That’s what racing is about!

“Huge thanks to everyone who has enabled me to get to this position in my career, particularly Red Bull and my family.”

Ticktum joins junior team colleague Niko Kari, who drives for Arden, in the series.
