Mick Schumacher will take his father’s 1994 championship-winning car on a demo run at the Belgian Grand Prix to honour the 25th anniversary of his first Formula 1 victory.

The Ford-powered Benetton B194 was the car which helped take Schumacher Sr to his first world title after a long fought controversial battle with Britain’s Damon Hill throughout the 1994 season.

18-year-old Schumacher currently runs in the European F3 championship and lies 11th in the standings, competing against the likes of Lando Norris, Callum Ilott, and Maximillian Gunther.

His father debuted for Jordan in 1991 at Spa-Francorchamps and made a huge impression by qualifying seventh, beating his more experienced team-mate Andrea De Cerais. His car failed only seven laps into the race but he had already impressed many in the paddock.

After being picked by Benetton for the rest of the ’91 season, Schumacher won upon his return to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in ’92, clinching the first of what would be his 91 wins in F1.

A private collection of Schumacher’s cars, race suits, and other memorabilia will be unveiled to the press at Motorworld Cologne on Thursday.

The German’s record of 68 pole positions could be equalled by Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton this weekend at the Belgian GP.
