Norris leads Carlin 1-2 at Zandvoort
McLaren junior Lando Norris led a Carlin 1-2 to take his seventh win of the season and extend his lead at the top of the European Formula 3 championship.
A clean start and a trouble free race for Norris allowed him to build a gap of more than six seconds to team-mate Ferdinand Habsburg. His second race win of the season puts him more than 10 points ahead of Maximillian Gunther in the championship standings.
After defending off the line, Habsburg pulled away from Gunther, finishing four seconds clear of the Prema Powerteam driver.
A mistake from Gunther in the closing stages of the race allowed Guan Yu Zhou to close in on his team-mate, but he was never close enough to attempt an overtake.
Race two winner Callum Ilott was running in a lonely fifth early in the race, but pitted for a new front wing and dropped to the back of the field. He retired from the race with less than five minutes until the chequered flag.
Jake Hughes struggled to keep up with the leading pack, and eventually fell to 16 seconds behind Zhou.
He spent the first part of the race defending against Pedro Piquet and Harrison Newey. Though he was able to keep the Van Amersfoort drivers behind him, he couldn’t shake the pair, and eventually built up a train that consisted of most of the field. Piquet attempted to pass again late in the race, but Hughes defended to finish fifth ahead of the Van Amersfoort duo.
Ralf Aron held off Nikita Mazepin to finish eighth. Mazepin fell back behind Joey Mawson after touching wheels to with Aron, but finished inside the top 10.
Joel Eriksson struggled to move forwards from a poor qualifying position, and finished outside the points in 12th, behind Mick Schumacher.
