Perez aiming to have 2018 contract in place by Spa
Sergio Perez says he wants his future sorted once the Formula 1 season resumes after the mid-summer break at Spa.
Perez, who has been with Force India since 2014, has been linked away from the Silverstone-based outfit after showcasing some impressive form during his tenure at the team.
The Mexican has recorded a total of 56 points this season, helping – along with team-mate Esteban Ocon – to consolidate fourth in the constructors’ championship with a healthy advantage over rivals Williams.
Despite reports linking him with a potential Ferrari drive next year, Kimi Raikkonen looks set to be re-signed by the Scuderia, but Perez looks more than happy to stay put at Force India for another year.
“In terms of my future, I just hope that once I come back to the next race, after the summer break, I can have a new contract,” he said. “That would be good you know, but you never know what will happen.”
The 27-year-old has also praised his team for their continued progress in 2017, something Force India has done since Perez joined them from McLaren four years ago.
With another double-points finish secured in Hungary, Perez says the added investment from sponsors partly shows how far they have come.
“I think the team has been moving forwards every year,” he added. “Although last year we achieved the same position which we have now which is fourth, I think we have consolidated that fourth place.
“I think the team is moving forwards; there is a lot more interest in terms of sponsorship into the team, more investment but it’s not easy to make the next step with the big boys, with the big teams, it’s not easy.”
