Just one point separates Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton coming into the final race before Formula One’s summer break, with a late puncture costing Vettel dear at Silverstone a fortnight ago.
Valtteri Bottas is also in the title battle, with the Fin just 23 points behind Vettel and his driving improving as he becomes more and more accustomed to the Mercedes team.
All of the top three know they have a chance of taking the championship lead into the summer break and will be on top form to ensure they maximise their chances of doing so.
McLaren Honda has done well at the Hungaroring in recent times, with Fernando Alonso scoring points in both years that the revived partnership has competed in this race so far. McLaren is currently last in the constructors’ championship with just two points, three behind their nearest challengers Sauber.
Ahead of this weekend’s race, we have taken a look back at five of the top moments to come from the Hungaroring.
1992: Mansell seals the title
Nigel Mansell claimed his one and only F1 title at the Hungaroring in 1992, despite there still being five races of the season left.
If the Brit outscored teammate Riccardo Patrese by four points, he was guaranteed to lift the crown. In the end, the Italian retired and Mansell brought home the six points that came with second place to secure the title.
2003: Alonso sets a new record
Fernando Alonso led all but one lap of the 2003 Hungarian Grand Prix as he became the then youngest ever F1 winner.
The Spaniard took victory at the age of 22 years and 26 days, a record subsequently beaten by both Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
2006: Button finally wins
Despite starting down in fourteenth place after an engine change penalty, Jenson Button mastered the changing conditions to take a shock maiden victory at the Hungaroring in 2006.
It was a rather bizarre top three, with Pedro de la Rosa claiming his only podium in second and Nick Heidfeld coming home third for BMW.
2014: Ricciardo surprises us all
In a season dominated by Mercedes, it was a refreshing sight to see Daniel Ricciardo take his second ever victory after an epic Hungarian Grand Prix in 2014.
Lewis Hamilton had to fight his way through the field following a fire in qualifying, whilst Nico Rosberg fell behind due to strategic decisions.
As a result, the Australian took victory after a lunging move on Fernando Alonso, with Hamilton finishing on the podium for Mercedes.
2015: Bianchi gets an awesome farewell
Jules Bianchi tragically died in the build up to the 2015 race at the Hungaroring, with some moving tributes taking place before the race began.
Vettel and Raikkonen took the lead at the start of the race, with the Mercedes drivers falling back. Whilst Raikkonen would retire, Vettel went on to take victory in an epic race behind.
