Bird take pole ahead of second New York ePrix
Sam Bird continued his success with pole position ahead of the second New York ePrix with a time just 0.037s faster than Felix Rosenqvist in second.
Bird was only fourth fastest in the group qualifying stages, behind Pierre Gasly, Felix Rosenqvist, and Jean-Eric Vergne. All three performed scruffy laps in super pole, not quite able to beat Bird.
Vergne took third fastest, ahead of Pierre Gasly. The rookie, standing in for Sebastien Buemi, was fastest in the group stages, but locked up a lot on his super pole lap. He took fourth fastest. Team-mate Nico Prost could only manage 15th.
Nick Heidfeld took fifth, nearly a second slower than Bird.
Maro Engel narrowly missed out on super pole. Out in the final qualifying group, he was fifth fastest before a late lap from Heidfeld put him sixth. Oliver Turvey took seventh, ahead of Daniel Abt.
Lucas Di Grassi, out in the third qualifying group, tapped the wall on his flying lap, knocking the steering. He could only manage ninth fastest. Tom Dillmann rounded off the top 10.
