Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist led a Mahindra one-two at the end of FP2 as Mahindra and DS Virgin look strong heading into qualifying.

After a rain filled shakedown and a damp, green first practice session, FP2 was constantly full of track action as teams used as much of the final 30 minutes of practice as possible before qualifying. At the midpoint of the session, Mahindra’s Nick Heidfeld led from NextEV’s Oliver Turvey, DS Virgin’s Sam Bird and Alex Lynn third and fourth respectively with Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist fifth. Loic Duval ground to a halt early on in the session and despite setting a reasonable lap time he was told to pit.

The first 1.02 came courtesy of Buemi’s championship rival Lucas di Grassi, which was toppled by Sam Bird and Felix Rosenqvist. Rosenqvist damaged his rear on his lap but was able to continue. However, Lucas di Grassi was not able to continue due to a mechanical issue after his lap, bringing out a full-course yellow with just under four minutes remaining.

With exactly three minutes remaining the FCY was gone, giving drivers one last opportunity to put in a lap or two. Prost was the first notable improvement, moving up to P2 before Heidfeld made it a Mahindra one-two. However, no-one was able to topple Rosenqvist, making it a Mahindra 1-2, Prost third, Bird fourth and di Grassi in fifth.
