HitechGP’s Tadasuke Makino will miss the next two rounds of the European Formula 3 championship after injuring his hand last weekend.
Makino was left with a broken wrist and injuries to his hand and thumb after colliding with Harrison Newey. He was running behind the Van Amersfoort driver when he locked up approaching the hairpin and ran straight on, colliding with Newey.
The Honda junior will need an operation to insert a plate into his wrist. He will be out of action for eight to 10 weeks, ruling him out of the Spa and Zandvoort weekends.
Hitech sporting director Oliver Oakes expects Makino will be back before the Nurburgring round in September.
“Nurburgring seems the normal timeframe, but we will have to monitor his recovery to see week by week,” Oakes told Autosport.
“He will undergo an operation this week and then will be in rehabilitation with the team’s physio.
“All the team wish Tada a speedy recovery and would like to thank the medical staff at the Norisring circuit to get it seen to last night.”
Makino also takes a three place grid penalty and a penalty point for causing the collison. The grid penalty will be served at the next race he competes in.
Hitech is not expected to run a replacement driver at Spa or Zandvoort
