Joan Mir takes hard-fought victory at Sachsenring
Joan Mir has taken yet another victory, as the Spaniard looks to take his first Moto3 world championship.
The Leopard Racing rider took a hard-fought victory at the Sachsenring, beating out rival Romano Fenati to keep his championship lead going into the Summer break.
Fenati crossed the line just behind Mir, with Marcos Ramirez finishing third. The Spaniard took his first ever Grand Prix podium and became the highest ranking KTM rider in the world championship.
Fourth was Nicolo Bulega, who enjoyed a good battle with Tony Arbolino. The Italian, unfortunately, crashed out, but the rookie put in a great performance to stay with the front runners for so long.
German Phillip Oettl finished fifth, a good finish for his home GP. Enea Bastianini took sixth, with Livio Loi and Bo Bendsneyder finishing just behind in seventh and eighth place respectively.
Tatsuki Suzuki finished an impressive ninth, with Darryn Binder finishing in tenth place.
This extends Mir’s lead in the world championship to 32 points going into the Summer break. Aron Canet, the polesitter, crashed out, which means Mir holds a 55 point lead over the Estrella Galicia 0.0 rider.
The Moto3 Championship now goes into a summer break, returning at Brno in a months time.
