Mercedes junior driver George Russell is set to take part in his first official session for the German manufacturer at the in-season test at Hungary on August 1-2.

The team used regular drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas in the first test in Bahrain in April, and subsequently, have no choice but to use this test to analyse a young driver.

Every squad must use someone who has competed in two or fewer events in the sport during two days of testing during 2017.

Russell is dovetailing his role with the team alongside a GP3 campaign with ART, placing in the top-five in the opening two races at Barcelona.

The track will be a useful benchmark for the Brit as he has previously raced there, finishing fourth in the second race in European F3 last season, in between two retirements.

He already has had much experience of testing in 2017, claiming the fastest time in five of 16 morning and afternoon sessions in GP3 machinery.
