Buemi fastest again in second Monaco practice
Sebastien Buemi was fastest in the second practice session for the 2017 Monaco ePrix, mirroring his performance in first practice.
Both Buemi and his Renault e.dams team-mate Nico Prost left it late to complete a full 200kw lap. The Swiss driver set a 52.729s to top the timesheets, while Prost ended his session in ninth.
It was a quiet session up and down the grid barring locking up tyres and brushing the wall at the final corner, in contrast to first practice which saw an incident between Felix Rosenqvist and Oliver Turvey. Neither of them finished in the top 10 and found themselves in 16th and 17th respectively.
DS Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird held first for the final third of the 30-minute session and was the first to go under 53s. He dropped to second after Buemi‘s lap but was still within a tenth of the defending drivers champion. Lucas di Grassi rounded up the top three for Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport.
Jean-Eric Vergne was the second fastest driver using a Renault power train in fourth. His team-mate Esteban Gutierrez was near the top of the timesheets for most of the session although by the end had dropped to 11th.
Sam Bird’s team-mate at DS Virgin Racing Jose Maria Lopez ended the session in fifth, while Loic Duval finished sixth in his Faraday Future Dragon Racing machine. Di Grassi‘s team-mate Daniel Abt found himself in seventh.
Drivers champion in the inaugural Formula E season Nelson Piquet Jr. was eighth, and the last driver to be within 0.5s of Buemi‘s fastest lap. The top 10 was rounded off by Venturi’s Stephane Sarrazin.
