Key figures from across motorsport have joined fans in raising money for British Formula 4 driver Billy Monger, who was placed in an induced coma after a crash that resulted in the amputation of his lower legs.

Monger was involved in a high-speed collision in the final F4 race of the weekend at Donington Park, leaving the British driver trapped in the car for nearly two hours before he could be extricated.

He was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Centre, his condition was “critical but stable” and that his vital signs “are showing progress” according to a statement from the series.

JHR Developments team boss Steven Hunter has set up a fundraising page to aid Monger’s recovery. It can be found here.

After just a few hours, over £150,000 had been raised by nearly 5000 supporters.

Coupled with an outpouring of donations from fans, nearly all of the key motorsport figures from Lewis Hamilton to Fernando Alonso have donated or shared the page.
