Techeetah signs Gutierrez for the rest of the season
Techeetah Formula E team has confirmed that Esteban Gutierrez will drive for the team for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.
The former Formula 1 driver will replace Ma Qing Hua, who has failed to score a single point for the Chinese team.
Gutierrez was already set to make his debut in Formula E at his home race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on April 1 and now will be given the drive for the remaining rounds.
“I’m very grateful to join Techeetah, a team with real competitiveness,” said Gutierrez.
“After four years of an incredible experience in F1, I’m now taking a step forward into the future of motorsports. I am especially excited about my debut race at the Julius Baer Mexico City ePrix. Hopefully I can put on a good show for the passionate home fans.”
The team’s lead driver, Jean-Eric Vergne is fourth in the drivers’ championship after picking up his first podium of the season in Buenos Aires.
With the Techeetah package looking to be very competitive, Gutierrez will be given the machinery to showcase his talent.
Ma will remain as the team’s third driver should Vergne or Gutierrez be unable to partake in a weekend, he will stand in.
