Jeffri joins forces with Trident for 2017
It has been announced that Nabil Jeffri will compete for the Trident team in the upcoming GP2 season.
Jeffri, 23, collected two points in his rookie campaign with Arden following a seventh place finish in Baku and will now enter his second season in the series as he moves over to Italian squad Trident.
The Malaysian is no stranger to the team, having spent the post-season test in Abu Dhabi piloting the car and familiarising himself with the technical staff and senior personnel.
A former German Formula 3 vice champion, Jeffri believes that a stronger season is ahead of him and aims to be a regular feature in the points.
“I am really honoured to be the first Trident driver announced for the 2017 GP2 program, said Jeffri.
“Having the chance to return to the series for my second season, and doing it with a Team with such a long and winning history is a dream for me. I am sure that they will support me best in 2017.
“Giacomo has been incredibly kind and supportive with me since the beginning and I love working with every single member of Team Trident. My goal is to do a great job with the team’s technical staff and aim for the top ten.”
Giacomo Ricci, the team manager of Trident, recognises the potential of the Malaysian driver and applauded his efforts in the post-season test.
“We are extremely delighted to announce Nabil Jeffri as our first GP2 Series driver for 2017,” said Ricci.
“We already had the chance to collaborate with this promising Malaysian driver during last year’s postseason testing when he showed great adaptation skills to our cars.
“We were really impressed by his progress in terms of results despite he only ran with us on the final day.
“We started working together in mid-January and we are convinced that benefiting with all the work done so far, Nabil will be really competitive from the first time on-track at Barcelona.”
Jeffri’s team-mate is yet to be announced for the 2017 season.
