Trident has announced Renault academy driver Kevin Joerg as their first signing ahead of the 2017 GP3 Series season.

The Swiss driver moves to the Italian team from DAMS for a second season in the series, driving their #9 car. He finished in 14th place in the 2016 standings with a best finish of fourth place at the final feature race of the season in Abu Dhabi.

Joerg also spent time at Arden International during post-season testing after his first season in the series. He returns to working with the Italian team having taken part in two days of post-season testing after the conclusion of the 2015 season.

Their team manager Giacomo Ricci is pleased to be able to work with someone he highly rates as a driver.

“We are proud and delighted to field Swissman Kevin Joerg in the upcoming GP3 Series season,” Ricci said.

“We had the chance to see him in action in 2015 in a collective post-season test at Yas Marina and we were quite impressed. He convinced me for his raw speed and for his ability to adapt.

“Back then, he stayed at the front end of the charts in every session. Kevin is definitely a great prospect and I’m sure that we will be doing a good job together this season. We are really motivated and looking forward to work with him. We are sure we have secured one of the quickest guns on the market!”

Joerg is the first driver to be confirmed in a seat on the GP3 grid after no signings were announced in the first six weeks following the end of the 2016 campaign.
