Red Bull confirms ties with ExxonMobil
Red Bull Racing have officially confirmed they will tie-up with ExxonMobil as a fuel and lubricant supplier for 2017.
The company’s Mobil 1 and Esso brands will feature on the cars, driver overalls and helmets, as well as being displayed at the Red Bull Racing Factory in Milton Keynes, and at trackside events.
It has been talked about for some time that the two brands would work together, this is despite ExxonMobil having worked with the McLaren team for numerous years.
This will fuel the rumours that the long-rumoured BP interest into Formula One sponsorship will be moving to McLaren.
Commenting on the new partnership Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner said: “Mobil 1 and Red Bull Racing are two global brands that share a passion for racing, performance and innovation. Mobil 1 has been an iconic brand in Formula One for more than 30 years and our new partnership provides us with a unique opportunity to tap into ExxonMobil’s world-class expertise.”
Due to the much-noted performance gains from fuels and lubricants since the turn of the hybrid era, this is a boost for the Red Bull team as they look to find continual gains with the Tag-Heuer badged Renault engine.
It is unknown if the Renault or Toro Rosso teams will be eventually be involved with the deal.
Horner added: “In addition to welcoming ExxonMobil to the Red Bull Racing stable, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the technical team at TOTAL, who have made a valuable contribution to our success in Formula One during our partnership.”
