Fuoco wins first GP3 race at Hockenheim
Trident’s Antonio Fuoco stormed to his second win of the season in a thrilling GP3 race at the Hockenheimring.
ART Grand Prix’s Nyck de Vries and Koiranen GP’s Matthew Parry joined Fuoco on the podium.
The Italian made one place off the start after Jake Dennis stalled his car – the second race in a row a driver on the front row of the grid has stalled.
Chaos soon ensued after Koiranen GP teammates Ralph Boschung and Matevos Isaakyan made contact. ART Grand Prix’s Nirei Fukuzumi and Campos Racing’s Steijn Schothorst got caught up the incident and all four drivers were forced to retire.
Fuoco overtook series leader Alexander Albon once the virtual safety car period had ended and dominated the rest of the race, winning by 5.9 seconds.
de Vries overtook Charles Leclerc on the final lap after the latter ran wide at Turn 1, losing two further positions to Parry and Albon.
Jack Aitken finished sixth ahead of Jenzer Motorsport’s Arjun Maini. Jake Hughes, Santino Ferrucci and Tatiana Calderon rounded out the points paying positions.
