Perez admits he could leave Force India
Sergio Perez admits he could leave Force India at the end of the season despite team owner Vijay Mallya confirming that both Perez and Nico Hulkenberg would remain with the team in 2017.
The Mexican is expected to stay with Force India for a fourth consecutive season, however, Renault are thought to be interested in Perez for next season.
“Yes,” Perez responded when asked by the media in Germany whether he could be driving elsewhere next season.
Perez says it is not solely his decision but due to his significant Mexican backing, they get a say in where he will be driving next season.
“The decision is not only down to me, as I’m a very lucky driver to have so much support, and if we’re moving around teams we take the decision together with the group of sponsors I have, and that decision has not been taken.”
The 26-year-old hopes his future will be confirmed after the summer break.
“I hope I can come back after the summer break knowing what the future holds for me, that would be ideal. But you never know in this business, because my deals are not so simple [because of his sponsors]…so it takes longer than for other drivers.”
