Max Verstappen believes his defensive moves which kept Kimi Raikkonen behind him during the Hungarian Grand Prix were fair amid criticism from the Finn over team radio.

Verstappen maintained his position of fourth behind the Mercedes duo and teammate Daniel Ricciardo off the start.

The Dutchman then lost a position through the stops to Sebastian Vettel and dropped behind Raikkonen, who had yet to pit, having started on the soft tyres.

Verstappen was forced to defend from Raikkonen in the latter stages of the race which led to the latter to complain over team radio, swearing in frustration.

“I think it’s good, to finally hear Kimi talk on the radio!” Verstappen joked after the race.

“I have no issues. I think everything was fair.

“I only moved once. It would be very strange if I would get penalised.

“I could see him coming [in the mirrors]. He was very optimistic to dive into inside. I turned into inside and he locked up and hit my rear – that can happen.”

It was reminiscent of their battle at the Spanish Grand Prix as the duo battled for the lead of the race, once again, with Verstappen coming out on top.
