Albon wins GP3 race two in Hungary
ART Grand Prix’s Alexander Albon stormed to his third win of the 2016 GP3 Series season at the Hungaroring to take the lead in the drivers’ standings.
Albon took the lead from Jenzer Motorsport’s Arjun Maini off the start and dominated proceedings from that moment onwards.
Hungary is only Maini’s second weekend in the series and he continued to impress, holding onto to the podium and coming home second ahead of Charles Leclerc in the second ART car.
Drama ensued on the opening lap when Charles Leclerc was hit by Ralph Boschung at the penultimate corner, Leclerc managed to continue unscathed whilst Boschung dropped to the back of the field.
Albon controlled the race from the front and set the fastest lap in the process to extend his lead at the top of the drivers’ standings to three points over Leclerc.
Jack Aitken pressurised Leclerc for third after the latter locked-up heavily in the final sector but the Monegasque driver held onto another podium finish.
Aitken finished fourth ahead of Nirei Fukuzumi and race one winner Matt Parry.
Jake Dennis and Matevos Isaakyan rounded out the points paying positions.
